An Explosive Drink Recipe from Tales of the Cocktail
Unless you are holed up somewhere with a Clockwork Orange-esque eye-lid-opening contraption affixed to your face attempting to take in every possible minute of live-streaming Olympics broadcast you are probably aware of an arguably more pertinent Olympic-size event going on this weekend in New Orleans: the annual beverage industry gathering known as Tales of the Cocktail.
Employees Only, a New York bar and restaurant which garnered “World’s Best Cocktail Bar” honors at the 2011 Tales of the Cocktail, took over local watering hole and theatrical space One Eyed Jack’s on Thursday Night for a pop-up mixology mash-up. Joined by members of LUPEC, the glamorous Ladies United for the Preservation of Endangered Cocktails — not to be confused with GLOW, the Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling — The EO crew slung Old Fashioneds and Manhattans as well as many specialty cocktails. We thought you might like to try your hand at one of the cocktails at home — The Ready, Aim, Fire, which has the potential to be a serious summer sipper.
Ready, Aim, Fire
1 1/2 ounces Tequila Don Julio Blanco
1/2 ounce honey pineapple syrup (try Monin, or combine simple syrup with pineapple and honey)
1/3 ounce fresh lime juice
1/3 ounce fresh pineapple juice
Pink peppercorns, for garnish
Combine Tequila Don Julio Blanco, honey pineapple syrup, fresh lime juice and fresh pineapple juice into a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake well. Strain over fresh ice into a rocks class. Garnish with cracked pink peppercorn.
