Ana's Cantina hosts Monday Texas Style BBQ in St. Helena

Serious Texas style BBQ has come to St. Helena. Every Monday at least. Starting today and every week thereafter, smokey goodness will spill from the back of Ana’s Cantina from 11:30 a.m. until, according to the bar, “the meat runs out.” In theory this includes plenty of chow to see hungry football fans through to the end Monday night’s primetime game.

Competitive BBQ pit master David Dubow of Double D’s Double Barrel BBQ (based up in Lake County) arrived at Ana’s early this morning and fired up his smokers in the alley behind the bar, burning applewood from Suisun Valley and beginning the slow process of preparing pulled pork and racks of ribs. The pulled pork, soft and moist with a hint of sweetness, went for $10 with a side of jalapeno bacon potato salad or “kitchen sink” beans, and the rack of ribs was $13. The lunch crowd today nodded and mumbled their approval of the new offering through mouthful of pork washed down with cold beers. Dave plans to change the menu every week. Next Monday will be brisket and chicken. So now even of you don’t care a thing about football you have a reason to get excited about Monday nights.

Update: (10/04/12) Unfortunately plans to continue the Monday night barbecue at Ana’s on a weekly basis were abandoned. So the BBQ pop-up was a one time affair.
