Playlist: Hazy Shade of Winter

Perhaps no song better sums up the long cold and rainy season in vinlandia than “Hazy Shade of Winter.” We’ve been lucky (or unlucky, depending on whether or not you are a vineyard manager) to have a surprisingly mild winter this year. But this week warm and sunny days gave way to our more typical wintery mix of fog, cold and rain. And, as Cathy Corison pointed out, expectations for an early bud break were quickly dashed. Hell, she even hinted there might be that “patch of snow on the ground” (of Mt. Saint Helena, but still), though to make the song truly work you have to swap snow with mustard seed and patches of pruned vines.

So to start out our playlist this week you have “Hazy Shade of Winter” (The Bangles cover version just sounded more hot pink to us). These “Tasting Notes” also include Elvis, Iggy, The New York Dolls, Air, Bill Withers, and a new song from Sleigh Bells.
